We handle personal information about people in Canada in line with PIPEDA (and provincial privacy laws where they apply), and we send commercial electronic messages in line with Canada’s anti-spam law (CASL). If you use the form: your name, work email, company and anything else you choose to tell us. We use it to reply and to discuss your records. We collect it with your express consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
If you ask for buyer access: your name, work email, company, website, the kind of buyer you are and what you would use records for. We use it to reply and decide whether there's a match. We collect it with your express consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
If we email you: your name, work email, company and job role, taken from business sources or published business contact details. We only send commercial electronic messages where we have your express consent, or implied consent as CASL allows, for example where your business email address is conspicuously published and our message is relevant to your role. Every message identifies us, gives our mailing address and has a working unsubscribe link, and we act on unsubscribe requests straight away.
We record the pages viewed, buttons and links clicked, how far visitors scroll, time spent, answers in the records check, and whether the form is started or sent. We also record device type, browser, the site you came from, and your time zone. We do this to see which pages and messages work.
By default nothing is stored on your device. Visits are counted with a code worked out from your connection that changes every day, and we don't keep your IP address. If you choose “Yes, that's fine” on the banner, a random code is stored in your browser so we can tell when you come back. Clear this site's data in your browser to remove it. If you arrive from one of our emails, the link carries a reference code so we can tell which message it was, and if you send the form we connect your visit to your enquiry.
Providers working for us: Fly.io (hosting, servers in Toronto), Cloudflare (domain and email forwarding), Google Workspace (email), Resend (alerts to us when the form is sent) and Instantly (sending our emails). We don't sell your details. If you go ahead with us, we'd only share information about your business with a buyer with your agreement. Some of these providers, and our team, are in the United States, so your personal information may be processed outside Canada and may be accessible to courts and authorities there under local law.
Up to 12 months after our last contact, and website visit records are deleted after 12 months. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a do-not-contact list so we don't email you again.
You can ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you, ask us to delete it, stop our emails, withdraw consent, or challenge how we handle your information, by emailing hello@datavaluecanada.com. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca. If you are in Québec, you may also have rights under Québec’s private-sector privacy law.
